Bloody Sunday commemorations   19/11/2020

Thomas Davis Commemorates Bloody Sunday - Sat 21st of November. See info below.

Dear club members,

November 21st 1920 is a date etched in the proud and illustrious history of the GAA. As one of Dublin oldest GAA clubs we wanted to mark this occasion with our club members.

On that fateful day 14 people went to Croke Park to watch a game of football between Dublin and Tipperary and never came home. While the corner back of Tipperary Michael Hogan was also fatally wounded on the field of play.

It was the clubs ambition to commemorate this occasion with the respect it deserves but with the current restrictions we were limited to what we could organize.

In the meantime we have organized a small number of activities for our club members to remember all those who lost their lives on Bloody Sunday.

As a small gesture of respect we will lower the flags of the club to half mast on Saturday the 21st November.

- 5km family morning Walk - We'd encourage our members to take a local route and walk 5km in their family pod. Put on your Dublin or Tipperary colours and send in a selfie to the Thomas Davis Facebook page. The club takeaway coffee shop will be open from 945am to 12.30pm if members who'd like a hot beverage or breakfast roll before or after their walk. Again we'd encourage everyone to stick to family pods for this walk and not to congregate in groups around the club.

- Bloody Sunday Memorial - We will have a special memorial wall lit up beside the club coffee shop for members to view while passing. This includes match day info for the Dublin V Tipperary match plus a list of all the people who lost their lives. This will be lit up during the evening and available to view all day.

- Annual Club Mass - Our annual club mass takes place at 5pm in the Priory where all club members who have passed away will be remembered along with all the people who lost their lives on Bloody Sunday. This mass will be closed for patrons but it will be streamed live on http://churchservices.tv/tallaght.

- Light a candle - In conjunction with many GAA clubs around the country we'd encourage members to light a candle at 19.20pm as a mark of respect in memory of all the innocent victims of Bloody Sunday.
