There was a mixed bag of results for our adult football teams on the opening weekend of the Go-Ahead Adult Football championships. The seniors and inters both lost out to St Vincent’s as the two junior teams had good wins against Na Fianna and Naomh Barog.
Junior 1 All County – Kiltipper Rd – Thomas Davis 4-17 Na Fianna 1-7
The Junior 1 footballers had a comprehensive victory over Na Fianna with an impressive team display on Sunday morning. Some good first half goals with Rob Sharkey and Stephen Fox getting on the scoresheet, while Peter Boland along with Robbie Mearns provided scores throughout. The fullback line Cormac Flood, Anto O’Toole and Craig Burns laid the foundations for the victory with a solid display throughout. While club veteran Brian Kirby chipped in with a couple of well taken points from wing back as fellow wing back Evan Walsh also impressed for the home side.

Senior 1 – Balgriffin – St Vincent’s 1-16 Thomas Davis 1-10
The seniors started the game brightly on Saturday evening with points from Chris Sallier and Fionn Murray helping TD go into an early 3-1 lead. St Vincent’s gained control soon after to go in at the break 7-3 ahead, with Conor Burke and Cian Dunne both causing problems for the Davis defence.
Adam Fallon led the charge throughout as TD tried to reduce the deficit, with Adam hitting 2 fine points from play along with a number of vital blocks in Davis defence. Second half substitute Fionn Lynch chipped in with (0-3 2f) as Sean Benton also pushed hard throughout. Cian Murphy and Eamonn Conroy also chipped in with points with Eamonn hitting a goal towards the end to reduce the gap to just 2 points. Vincents then hit 1-1 late on in injury time to seal a 6 point victory on the night.
Next up is a vital Round 2 clash with Skerries Harps on Sat Aug 24th in Balgriffin at 5.30pm.
Junior 5 All County – Kiltipper Rd – Thomas Davis 0-15 Naomh Barog 0-13
A good home victory for the Junior 2 footballers on Monday evening as they overcame a good Naomh Barog side. Zak Moradi chipped in with 1-2 throughout with the Deasy brothers Chris and Anto putting in big shifts for the home defence. Eoin Duffy impressed in mid while defender Aaron Rafferty showed well scoring a nice point in the second half long with David Nugent working hard all game. Up front Brian Malee and Mark Leigh also contributed to a few points each.

Inter All County – Kiltipper Rd – St Vincent’s 1-7 Thomas Davis 1-4
The inters just fell short to St Vincent’s on Saturday evening in a low scoring affair. They will hope to improve for their round 2 clash with Lucan Sarsfield on Aug 24th away.
