The senior hurlers got their Senior 2 hurling championship campaign off to a winning start with a good victory over Ballinteer St John’s last Saturday evening on Kiltipper rd, winning out 0-25 to 1-18.
Both teams were very evenly matched throughout as both teams relied on their free takers with Kevin Ward on form for the home side scoring (0-13 10f). Full forward Sean Reilly once again put in a big performance on the night with three fine points from play while Bryan Keogh (0-4) , Anthony Barrett (0-1), Conor Cronin (0-2) and Davy Byrne (0-2) all contributed well throughout.
Ballinteer St John’s rallied late on but the Thomas Davis stood firm with full back David Horan and wing back Daire Kerr putting in strong displays leading the home defense.
Next up is Raheny this Saturday 20th at home in round 2 of the championship.
Elsewhere the Junior 1 + 2 hurlers registered first round championship wins. In the Junior F championship the Junior 2 team beat Stars of Erin 6-12 to 3-18 in a very entertaining affair in Glencullen. With late goals by Anthony O’Toole and minor Jake Maher sealing the victory. Next up is a home game this Friday against Civil Service at 730pm.
While in the Junior B championship the Junior 1 team got the better of Whitehall Colmcilles at home winning out 1-18 to 2-12, strong performances on the day by goalie Ciaran Kavanagh, Evan Walsh Tadgh Farrelly, Jack McDonnell with Anto Deasy scoring the goal and Dean Gibbons leading the scoring chipping in with 12 points on the day. Next up is Ballinteer St. John’s in round 2 this Sunday morning at 11am in Marley park.
