Condolences John Collins

It is with deep sadness that we, at Thomas Davis GAA Club, extend our heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of John Collins (Ellensborough, Tallaght). Our thoughts remain with Liz, Eoin, Amy and all the family + friends during this difficult time.

John arrived in Dublin in 1993 on holiday from Birmingham or so he thought! He met and married the love of his life Liz by Nov 1995. There were many trips to and from Birmingham and Dublin and Wexford during those 2 years. John & Liz eventually settled in Tallaght and became parents to Amy and Eoin.

A great man for the work, John started his work in Dublin as an electrician for J J Slevin & Sons and continued to enjoy numerous employments before settling in Penney’s as their regional facilities manager where he quickly built up a great reputation across the Penney’s retail stores nationwide.

John was an integral part of our club, dedicating countless voluntary hours to coaching our kids Academy and nurturing the talents of our juvenile hurling and football teams over the years. He was a stalwart of our kids academy for nearly two decades where his passion, encouragement, generosity, and commitment left an incredible mark on both the children he coached, his fellow coaches and the wider Thomas Davis community. John worked very closely with club coach Stephen Stewart and Dan Walsh over a long period in the academy, he was ever present in the hail, rain or snow ready to set up for the day with the academy team.

John was always on hand to help out with anything that was asked of him, he took over the Junior 1 hurling team as manager back in 2016 and kept that team going for several years, with little experience of managing or playing adult hurling John even managed to tog out once or twice in his jeans to make sure we didn’t concede. That team went on to win a couple of championships after John finished up and our adult hurling section will forever be grateful for his contribution during those years.

Only this year John was asked to form part of the organizing committee for Lá na gClub day, his experience, enthusiasm and attitude proved vital in a very successful club initiative.

Over the last number of years John really enjoyed his time with the GAA for Dads and lads team, where they enjoyed great trips abroad to Lisbon and Frankfurt. He was always at the centre of all the mischief and craic with his team mates.

John’s contributions will forever be cherished, and his legacy will live on in the many lives he touched. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.

Funeral arrangements to follow.
