Well done to the senior ladies who booked their place in the semi-final of the Dublin Senior LGFA Championship with a well-earned 2-10 to 0-9 away win over Fingallians this evening.
The visitors made a flying start, racing into a 1-9 to 0-3 half-time lead. A brilliantly finished goal from Rachel Newell, who finished with 1-2, gave Davis a cushion early on. Well taken points from Ciara McGuigan, Fidelma Merriman, Sinead Deegan and Tammy Quinn kept the scoreboard ticking, with the team’s movement and accuracy proving too sharp for the hosts.
In the second half, Fingallians battled back but could find no way past a resolute Davis defence. Goalkeeper Caitlin Stanton was solid between the posts, making key interventions when called upon. While Abaigh Pollock and Tammy Quinn stood out in defence, breaking up attacks and driving the team forward along with Olwen Carey in midfield. The game was put beyond doubt when Orlagh McGuigan netted a second goal to seal a deserved victory.
The team now advance with into the last four, where they will face Kilmacud Crokes away next Wednesday in the Dublin Senior Championship semi-final. Full details TBC.
